A growing digital initiative, Masjid.Life, is using technology to connect charitable donors with underprivileged families through a mosque-based support system that provides 100 percent interest-free microloans and social support services. Through its digital platform, the organization has built a network of branches that help deliver financial assistance without interest, processing fees, or hidden service charges.

In a conversation with Masjid.Life founder Kamal Ahmed, he explained that the platform was created to stand beside families who often become victims of high-interest lenders after borrowing only small amounts of money. He said Masjid.Life was founded to give vulnerable people a dignified alternative by making interest-free loans available through local mosques, allowing families to rebuild their lives without falling deeper into debt.

According to Mr. Ahmed, the organization’s mission is to help poor and disadvantaged people become self-reliant by replacing traditional exploitative lending systems with a community-based model of support. Through the platform, donors can contribute funds that are distributed locally through participating mosque branches, creating a transparent connection between those who want to help and those in need.

Masjid.Life describes its financial support as Qard Hasanah, or benevolent loans, where recipients repay only the original amount in small installments. The organization states that borrowers are never charged profit, service fees, application costs, penalties, or any additional amount beyond what they receive.

Rather than distributing funds from a central office, Masjid.Life works through community-led mosque branches. Local management teams identify families in need and distribute support after Friday prayers in a process designed to remain open, accountable, and rooted in community trust.

Mr. Ahmed also emphasized that transparency remains one of the platform’s strongest features. Masjid.Life uses an open-book software system that allows donors to see where their contributions go, which branch receives the funds, and who benefits from that assistance. Because volunteers manage operations and mosques serve as community centers, the organization says nearly every donated dollar reaches those it is intended to help.

Beyond microfinance, Masjid.Life also supports people with disabilities, educational programs, and wider poverty-reduction initiatives, showing how digital technology can strengthen traditional charitable values in today’s world.

As digital philanthropy continues to expand, Masjid.Life is becoming more than a website. It is emerging as a model for how mosques can serve not only as places of worship, but also as centers for economic empowerment, social responsibility, and lasting community change.

According to the latest available system report of Masjid.Life, the platform has expanded into a wide mosque-based financial support network across Bangladesh. The organization currently operates approximately 356 branches, covering more than 50 districts, forming a nationwide structure built around local mosques and community participation.

Masjid.Life has already facilitated a significant volume of Qard Hasanah (interest-free loans) under its social welfare model. To date, the platform has disbursed more than 80.01 million BDT (around 8 crore taka) in interest-free financial assistance. Of this amount, about 66.14 million BDT has already been repaid, while the outstanding balance stands at approximately 13.87 million BDT.

The available data suggests that a large portion of the funds has been successfully returned and continuously recycled back into the system to support new beneficiaries. Overall, the organization reports a repayment performance of over 80 percent, while overdue accounts are estimated at around 18 percent.

Unlike conventional financial institutions, Masjid.Life does not operate on a profit or interest-based model. There is no interest, no profit margin, and no service charge involved. Instead, the system functions as a revolving social fund, where repaid money is reused to extend further interest-free support to new borrowers in need, strengthening its community-driven welfare cycle.
