By Md Shafiul Alam from Dhaka, May 09, 2026: A rare atmosphere of festivity and reunion descended on the premises of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of University of Dhaka as former and current students gathered for the Communication Festival organized by the Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni Association (DUMCJAA) on Friday.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the election of the DUMCJAA executive committee further added colour and excitement to the occasion.
In the election to the executive committee of the Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni Association (DUMCJAA), Ilias Khan was elected President, while Shahnaz Sharmin Rinvee was elected General Secretary.
Chief Election Commissioner S.A.M. Mahfuzur Rahman announced the results late Friday night following the completion of vote counting. Election Commissioners Zahid Newaz Khan Jewel, Daulat Akter Mala, and Angur Nahar Monti were also present during the announcement.
In the presidential race, Ilias Khan secured a decisive victory with 275 votes. His nearest rival, Dr. M. Kamal Uddin Jasim, received 126 votes, while Firoz Chowdhury obtained 14 votes.
Shahnaz Sharmin Rinvee was elected unopposed as General Secretary.
The elected Vice Presidents are Taiqul Islam Khan Robin, Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, Kabir Ahmed Khan, Sharmin Akter, and Shahed Alam, receiving 340, 322, 289, 233, and 209 votes respectively.
Shakil Hasan, Jesmin Jahan Moon, and Majedul Hasan Payel were elected Joint General Secretaries with 325, 265, and 197 votes respectively. Another candidate, Nadia Sharmin, received 191 votes.
For the post of Assistant Finance Secretary, Lincoln M.A. Lutfor Rahman Sarkar was elected with 292 votes, defeating Mohammad Badiul Hasan, who secured 99 votes.
Tarek Hasan Nirjhr was elected Welfare Secretary with 332 votes, while his rival Muhammad Sayedur Rahman received 60 votes.
Mohiuddin Murshid Mahi won the Sports Secretary post with 249 votes, defeating Md. Tabib E Noor, who obtained 135 votes.
Abul Kalam Azad secured the highest number of votes among the Executive Members with 325 votes. Other elected Executive Members are Hasan Ullah Khan Rana Hasan, MD Anowar Hossain Majumdar, Sharmin Ifta Shams Tuli, Ali Asif Shawon, Israt Jahan Shobha, Nazma Binte Alamgir, Shawkat M. Obayed Hasan Rukun, Muhammad Rezaul Karim Shamim, and Toufik Mahmud.
Meanwhile, candidates for the posts of Cultural Secretary, Research and Seminar Secretary, Communication Secretary, Office Secretary, Finance Secretary, Organizing Secretary, Assistant Organizing Secretary, and Publication Secretary were elected unopposed, as there was only one candidate for each post.
