Assistant Teacher Suspended After Alleged Assault on Headmaster in Shariatpur; Ministry Orders Swift Action

Dhaka, July 5, 2026: An assistant teacher has been temporarily suspended following allegations of physically assaulting and injuring a headmaster at a government primary school in Shariatpur district, according to a press release issued by the Directorate of Primary Education.

The incident reportedly occurred at the 87 No. Abbas Ali Government Primary School under Vedarganj Upazila, where assistant teacher Delwar Hossain was accused of physically assaulting the headmaster. Following the allegation, the district primary education office initiated an investigation and took immediate administrative action.

The official statement claims that an inquiry committee was formed shortly after the incident, which collected statements from witnesses, questioned relevant individuals, and reviewed available evidence. Based on preliminary findings that supported the allegation of physical assault, authorities recommended disciplinary action under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.

As a result, assistant teacher Delwar Hossain has been temporarily suspended pending further investigation.

Primary and Mass Education State Minister Bobi Hajjaj directed swift action in the case and reiterated a strict “zero tolerance” policy toward violence and misconduct in educational institutions.

“We will not allow any form of violence, misconduct, or disciplinary breakdown in educational institutions. Protecting the dignity of teachers and ensuring a safe learning environment is a top priority,” the minister said, according to the release.

He also thanked media outlets for responsible reporting, stating that journalistic scrutiny helps ensure accountability and enables faster administrative response. The ministry emphasized continued cooperation with the press to improve governance and education standards.
