EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — President Donald Trump is expected to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, where Spain and Argentina will compete for the sport's most coveted trophy. His visit has prompted one of the largest security operations ever implemented for a sporting event in the United States.

The match has already been designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE) — a classification reserved for events of exceptional national significance. With the President in attendance, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies have coordinated an extensive security plan covering players, dignitaries, and more than 80,000 expected spectators.

The U.S. Secret Service is leading the operation, working alongside the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, New Jersey State Police, local police departments, emergency management agencies, and FIFA security officials. Thousands of law enforcement personnel have been deployed both inside and outside the stadium.

Fans heading to the match can expect multiple layers of screening: airport-style checks, magnetometers, bag inspections, explosive detection measures, surveillance cameras, K-9 units, and highly visible armed officers throughout the stadium complex. Authorities have also established restricted airspace over the venue, with helicopters and drones expected to monitor the surrounding area.

Road closures and significant traffic congestion are anticipated throughout the day around the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Officials have urged spectators to arrive several hours before kickoff and to use public transportation whenever possible. Parking lots are expected to fill quickly, and drivers should prepare for additional security checkpoints before entering the stadium grounds.

Trump's appearance underscores the growing profile of soccer in the United States as the nation hosts the world's largest sporting event. FIFA President Gianni Infantino is also expected to attend, and Trump may participate in post-match ceremonies, including the presentation of the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winning team.

Security officials have emphasized that while no credible threats have been announced publicly, the extensive measures are designed to provide the highest level of protection for the President, international dignitaries, athletes, and fans from around the world.

Authorities continue to encourage spectators to remain patient, follow instructions from security personnel, report any suspicious activity immediately, and allow extra time to enter the stadium. Officials say these precautions are essential to ensuring a safe and memorable conclusion to the historic 2026 FIFA World Cup.
