Al Mamun from USA:
Local residents have welcomed the government’s initiative to establish a Polytechnic School and College in Saturia Upazila of Manikganj. Following the recent announcement by Afroza Khanam Rita as the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, discussions have intensified regarding the selection of the institution’s location.
Local leaders, educators, parents, community representatives, and residents have strongly urged the government to establish the Polytechnic School and College on the eastern side of Tilli Union. According to them, Tilli Union has remained neglected in terms of development for many years. Although several government facilities were once expected to be established in the area, they were ultimately built elsewhere. Residents also point to the location of the Union Parishad Complex as a longstanding example of this perceived neglect.

According to local residents, community and political leaders highlighted the geographical importance of the proposed site during discussions on the project. They noted that Tilli Union is strategically located at the junction of Manikganj Sadar, Saturia, Daulatpur, and Ghior upazilas, making it a highly significant location. They described the proposed site as a “focal point,” arguing that a major technical education institution there would provide equal educational opportunities to students from all four neighboring upazilas.
Local leaders further emphasized that Tilli Union currently lacks any major government educational institution or significant public establishment. They argued that constructing the Polytechnic School and College in Tilli would help address years of development disparities while expanding access to technical and vocational education. They believe the institution would benefit not only Tilli Union but also students from South Ayanapur, North Ayanapur, Pachutia, and surrounding communities.
Residents also expressed hope that the project would generate new employment opportunities, strengthen the local economy, improve infrastructure, promote business activities, and enhance transportation throughout the region.
One local resident wrote on social media that, due to weak leadership in the past, the Union Parishad Complex was not established on the eastern side of Tilli. The resident called on everyone to unite, regardless of political affiliation, to ensure that the proposed Polytechnic School and College is established in the eastern part of the union.
As of now, the government has not officially announced the final location of the Polytechnic School and College. While public discussions continue, residents are awaiting the government’s final decision.
Local civic leaders believe that factors such as transportation accessibility, student convenience, population distribution, land availability, and long-term regional development should be carefully considered before selecting the final site. They hope the government will make a decision that serves the broader public interest.
Meanwhile, US Bangla Tribune, a widely circulated news outlet published from the United States, announced that it will closely monitor the progress of this important development project. The publication stated that it will continue to publish factual and objective reports to promote transparency, accountability, and ensure that the legitimate concerns and aspirations of local residents are properly reflected throughout the implementation process.
Residents remain optimistic that the government will consider the area’s strategic location and educational needs before making its final decision. They believe that establishing the Polytechnic School and College in Tilli Union would open a new chapter for technical education in Saturia Upazila and play a significant role in developing a skilled workforce for the future.
