13-Year-Old Girl Stalked From Bronx Bus and Raped in Van Cortlandt Park; NYPD Launches Manhunt

BRONX, NEW YORK — A wave of fear and indignation has gripped the Bronx community following a brutal assault on a 13-year-old girl, who was stalked off a city bus and dragged into a park to be raped.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed the harrowing details on Saturday, June 27, launching a massive manhunt for the unidentified suspect.

According to police reports, the horrifying sequence of events began last Tuesday, June 23, at approximately 10:00 PM.

The 13-year-old victim was riding a Bx9 line bus through the Bronx when an unknown male boarded, approached her, and began intentionally tracking her movements.

When the bus stopped near Broadway and West 261st Street, the suspect followed the young girl off the vehicle. Within moments, he ambushed her, grabbing her by force.

The perpetrator dragged the teenager into a secluded, wooded area of Van Cortlandt Park, where he sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene into the night.

The NYPD has classified this as a top-priority investigation. To aid in the capture of the suspect, authorities have released CCTV footage and still images captured from the bus and surrounding area.

The NYPD is urging anyone with information to contact the Crime Stoppers hotline. All calls are strictly confidential, and authorities are banking on public cooperation to identify the man before he strikes again.

This brutal attack is not an isolated incident, raising urgent questions about public safety and predator activity in New York City parks. Just days prior, on June 14, an 18-year-old male was arrested for raping a 17-year-old girl in Ferry Point Park, another major green space in the Bronx.

The back-to-back nature of these predatory crimes has sparked widespread panic and outrage among local residents. Parents express deep anxiety over the lack of security, demanding increased police patrols, better lighting, and heightened surveillance around public transit routes and park perimeters.

As the investigation intensifies, Bronx residents are urged to remain highly vigilant, look out for one another, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
