BOGURA, May 7, 2026– In a move set to revolutionize the economy of Northern Bangladesh, the government has announced a massive transformation of Bogura Airport into a world-class international aviation gateway. Following the direct vision of Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has designated Bogura as the starting point for a nationwide aviation development surge.
On Thursday morning, a high-powered delegation—led by Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Ms. Afroza Khanam, MP—arrived at Bogura Airport via a special Bangladesh Air Force helicopter to greenlight the ambitious expansion.
"The people of Bogura are truly fortunate," Minister Afroza Khanam remarked during the site visit. "By harnessing the immense potential of the northern region, we are transforming Bogura into one of the country’s leading aviation hubs."
The expansion is not merely a renovation but a total reimagining of the region's infrastructure. According to State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP, the project will include a Massive 10,500-Foot Runway which will be capable of handling international-standard aircraft, placing Bogura on the global flight map.
The establishment of a state-of-the-art Pilot Training Academy to nurture the next generation of Bangladeshi aviators will be there. Also a high-capacity cargo facilities designed to fast-track the export of agricultural and industrial goods from the North to international markets.
The inclusion of State Minister for Local Government Mr. Mir Shah Alam, MP, and Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan in the delegation underscores the strategic importance of this project. By integrating cargo capabilities with a pilot training center, the government aims to create a "triple-threat" hub that boosts communication, trade, and defense logistics simultaneously.
This initiative marks a "new horizon" for the northern districts, promising to turn Bogura into a center for export trade and a vital node in the country’s transport network. With the official visit complete, the implementation process is now in full swing, signaling a bright, high-flying future for the region.
The visit was attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Fahmida Akhtar, ndc, and senior airport authorities, ensuring that the transition from blueprint to reality begins immediately.
