DHAKA, May 5, 2026 — Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation and Tourism leadership has called for bold and innovative initiatives to accelerate growth in the country’s tourism sector, emphasizing profitability, branding, and modernization.

The call came during an exchange meeting held মঙ্গলবার afternoon at the Tourism Building in Agargaon, where officials and staff of the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation and Bangladesh Tourism Board gathered to discuss future strategies.

Speaking as the chief guest, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam said the government is actively working to transform the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation into a profitable entity. She acknowledged that the sector had not achieved expected progress over the past 17 years and stressed the need for a concrete action plan to overcome longstanding challenges.

The minister also urged officials of the Bangladesh Tourism Board to adopt innovative approaches in promoting tourism activities and to focus on strategic branding of key tourist destinations to attract both domestic and international visitors.

State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, who attended as special guest, highlighted the importance of identifying loss-making hotels and restaurants under the corporation and taking effective steps to turn them into profitable ventures. He announced plans for field-level inspections across districts to assess conditions and implement reforms.

In a move toward sustainability, the state minister also directed that existing vehicles under the corporation be gradually replaced with electric vehicles.

The meeting featured a presentation outlining the history, vision, goals, and activities of both the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation and the Tourism Board.

Senior officials, including Tourism Secretary Fahmida Akhtar and Bangladesh Tourism Corporation Chairman Sayema Shaheen Sultana, were also present, along with other high-ranking representatives from the ministry and its affiliated agencies.

The government’s renewed focus signals an effort to reposition Bangladesh’s tourism industry as a competitive and sustainable contributor to the national economy.
