Government Promotes Sports to Build Drug-Free Society and “Bangladesh First” Vision: State Minister Barrister Mir Helal

July 4, 2026: The government is prioritizing sports and cultural activities as part of its broader strategy to protect young people from drugs and build a “drug-free society” under the vision of “Bangladesh First,” said Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the football tournament titled “24th Mass Uprising Sports Festival 2026” held on Saturday evening at MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram.

The state minister emphasized that sports play a crucial role in keeping adolescents and youth away from drug addiction. He highlighted the government’s focus on expanding sports and cultural engagement among young people as a preventive measure against substance abuse.

Referring to the leadership’s vision, he stated that the Prime Minister has made physical exercise, sports, and cultural activities mandatory alongside academic education for students, aiming to develop a healthier and more disciplined generation. However, the statement attributed to the Prime Minister could not be independently verified.

During the event, Barrister Mir Helal interacted with players from both teams and encouraged young people to focus on education alongside physical activities. He urged them to maintain strong family relationships, contribute to social welfare activities, and present a positive image of the country through social media.

He also called on the youth to pursue technical and modern education and dedicate themselves to national development.

The opening match of the festival was played between the Chattogram City Corporation XI and the Chattogram Port Authority Sports Association (White Team). The event was organized under the supervision of Chattogram District Sports Association councillor Abul Hashem Bokkor.

Local sports officials, community leaders, players, and a large number of spectators attended the colorful opening ceremony.
