There has been widespread discussion and criticism in recent times regarding the change in the color of the Bangladesh Police uniform. On January 20, 2025, the interim government decided to change the uniform colors of the Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Bangladesh Ansar. As part of this decision, “Iron Color” (a gray-iron shade) was chosen for the police, olive green for RAB, and golden wheat for Ansar.

Later, when the new uniforms were introduced in metropolitan police units and other specialized divisions, negative reactions emerged not only among the general public but also among police members themselves. Many described the new color as unsmart, resembling that of a guard or doorman, and less acceptable compared to the previous uniform. Some even referred to it as the “old muddy police” look. Social media was flooded with trolling and criticism, which also affected the confidence of police personnel.

In this situation, the newly appointed government has once again decided to change the uniform color.

According to the new proposal:

🔹 For Metropolitan Police: Khaki pants + pastel/light olive shirt

🔹 For District and Other Police Units: Khaki pants + deep blue shirt

Police Headquarters has stated that this change will not require any additional budget, as the new colors will be implemented gradually through the regular annual uniform supply process.

However, a question still remains in the public mind—will this newly chosen color truly help restore the dignity, smartness, and public trust of the police? Or will it once again create controversy?

The biggest question now circulating in the minds of citizens is, “Will changing the color of the police uniform really change the person inside?”
