RANGAMATI | April 27, 2026 — Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs, Mr. Dipen Dewan MP, stated today that the nation is witnessing a revolutionary transformation in the healthcare sector driven by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Tariq Rahman.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Healthcare Waste Treatment Plant at the Rangamati General Hospital premises, the Minister emphasized that the government’s development initiatives are reaching every corner of the country.
Minister Dewan highlighted the government’s ambitious goal of fulfilling key development targets within 180 working days, asserting that these achievements will provide a robust foundation for a safe, modern, and inclusive Bangladesh.
"Under the Prime Minister’s courageous leadership, we are ensuring that development is not just a slogan but a reality for the people of the hills," the Minister remarked.
The newly inaugurated facility is part of a broader initiative where 26 government hospitals across the three hill districts have been equipped with advanced waste management systems. Supported by the Government of Japan and technical assistance from UNDP, this project aims to mitigate the risks of infectious waste.
Key highlights of the project mentioned by the Minister include:
• Environmental Protection: Lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic have underscored that proper waste disposal is as critical as medical treatment.
• Inclusivity: Following the mantra of "Leaving No One Behind," the project serves all ethnic communities in remote hilly areas.
• Empowerment & Tech: The initiative promotes employment for women and utilizes digital monitoring systems to ensure transparency and accountability.
The Minister extended his gratitude to the international community, specifically the Government of Japan, the Canadian High Commission, and UNDP, for their continued partnership in Bangladesh’s development journey.
The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking international and local officials, including:
