Al Mamun: Notre Dame College’s (NDC) old and original building is set to be demolished to make way for a new building on the same site. According to the college administration, demolition work is scheduled to begin on October 1, 2026.

The announcement was made by Fr. Hemanto Pius Rozario, Principal of Notre Dame College, in a message addressed to the college’s alumni.

According to the message, the proposed new building is expected to have eight stories, although the plan remains subject to final approval.

In his message, Fr. Hemanto Pius Rozario noted that many former students attended classes in the historic building and undoubtedly have cherished memories associated with it. He invited alumni who wish to revisit those memories to return to the campus and take photographs of the building before demolition begins.

“We look forward to welcoming you back to the campus,” the Principal said in his message.

A Building Filled With Memories

For generations of Notre Dame College students, the old original building has been much more than a physical structure. Its classrooms, corridors and spaces are closely connected with memories of student life, friendships, teachers, examinations, extracurricular activities and countless personal experiences.

For NDC alumni now living across Bangladesh and around the world, the building represents an important chapter of their lives and a significant part of the college’s history and heritage.

The planned construction of a new building will mark a new chapter for Notre Dame College, with the proposed eight-story structure expected to provide modern facilities and additional space. However, the memories associated with the historic building are likely to remain an enduring part of the NDC alumni community.

With demolition scheduled to begin on October 1, 2026, alumni who wish to see the historic building one final time are encouraged to visit the campus beforehand.

For many former students, it may be a final opportunity to walk through the familiar classrooms and corridors where they spent an important part of their youth—and to preserve those memories through photographs before the historic structure disappears.
