Dhaka, June 25, 2026: Passengers aboard a US-Bangla Airlines flight bound for Chattogram experienced moments of panic on Wednesday morning after an engine-related warning prompted the aircraft to halt operations while preparing for takeoff at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
According to airport and airline sources, the aircraft, carrying approximately 70 passengers, was taxiing toward the runway and preparing for departure when the cockpit monitoring system detected an emergency warning indicating a possible fire-related issue in one of the engines.
Upon receiving the alert, the flight crew immediately suspended takeoff procedures and informed Air Traffic Control (ATC) in accordance with established aviation safety protocols.
The sudden interruption created confusion among some passengers, many of whom became anxious after learning about the emergency warning. Reports from the scene indicated that passengers hurried to collect their belongings as cabin crew members worked to ensure a safe evacuation from the aircraft.
Witnesses said that emergency procedures were activated quickly, and passengers were guided out of the aircraft as airport authorities and airline personnel responded to the situation. No injuries were reported during the evacuation.
Speaking on behalf of the airline, US-Bangla Airlines General Manager for Public Relations Kamrul Islam said the pilot acted promptly after the cockpit system displayed the warning signal.
“The pilot immediately stopped the aircraft and notified Air Traffic Control after receiving the alert from the monitoring system. All actions taken were in full compliance with international aviation safety procedures and company protocols,” he said.
The incident occurred while the aircraft was moving toward the runway and had not yet taken off, significantly reducing potential risks to passengers and crew members.
According to airline officials, the flight was originally scheduled to depart Dhaka at 7:00 a.m. for Chattogram. Following safety inspections and operational arrangements, the flight eventually departed around 8:00 a.m.
Authorities are expected to conduct a technical examination of the aircraft to determine the exact cause of the warning signal and whether it resulted from an actual engine malfunction or a system alert.
The incident once again highlights the critical role of onboard monitoring systems and strict adherence to safety procedures in ensuring passenger safety in commercial aviation.
