New Jersey | April 28, 2026 — Marlboro Township has appointed Juned Qazi, an Indian American community leader of Indian origin, as Honorary Deputy Mayor, further elevating his role in one of Monmouth County’s most prominent municipalities.
Qazi, a Republican, was appointed to the position in January 2026 during the township’s annual reorganization meeting. He previously won election to the Marlboro Township Council in 2021 and later served as Council President, becoming one of the first Indian Americans to hold a senior leadership role in the township’s government.
Originally from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, India, Qazi later immigrated to the United States and became actively involved in civic and public affairs in New Jersey. His rise in local government has drawn attention within the growing South Asian American community, where many view his appointment as a significant step in broader political representation at the municipal level.
Residents and community members say Qazi has played an active role in township affairs, contributing to discussions on local development, public services, and community engagement. Supporters describe his appointment as both a recognition of his service and a reflection of Marlboro’s increasingly diverse leadership.
