Breaking News: Iran Announces Suspension of Military Operations Against Israel Amid Ceasefire Push

Tehran/Jerusalem, June 8, 2026 — Iran announced Monday that it has suspended its current military operations against Israel, signaling a potential de-escalation in the latest round of hostilities between the two regional rivals after days of missile and air strikes that heightened fears of a broader Middle East conflict.

The announcement came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly called on both sides to halt military actions and said efforts were underway to achieve an immediate ceasefire. Iranian military officials said offensive operations had been paused but warned that Tehran would respond forcefully if Israel launches further attacks.

The latest escalation began after Israeli strikes targeted Hezbollah-linked positions and other sites in Lebanon. Iran responded with missile attacks against Israeli targets, prompting Israeli retaliatory strikes on Iranian military and industrial facilities. The exchanges marked the most serious confrontation between the two countries since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire was reached earlier this year.

Despite the announcement, Iranian officials stressed that the suspension does not represent a permanent end to hostilities. Tehran said it remains prepared for further military action if Israeli operations continue in Lebanon or elsewhere in the region.

The temporary halt helped ease concerns in global financial markets. Oil prices, which had surged amid fears of a wider regional war and disruptions to energy supplies, retreated after Iran declared the end of its current wave of attacks. Analysts said the development reduced immediate concerns about threats to critical shipping routes in the Middle East.

International leaders have welcomed signs of de-escalation while urging both sides to exercise restraint. However, tensions remain high across the region, particularly in Lebanon, where clashes involving Hezbollah and Israeli forces continue to threaten the fragile ceasefire efforts.

Diplomatic efforts led by the United States and regional mediators are expected to continue in the coming days as negotiators seek to prevent a renewed outbreak of large-scale conflict between Iran and Israel.
