Rangamati, May 12: Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan MP said that the current democratic government believes in complete freedom of the media and is working to promote free journalism in the country. He stated that late President Ziaur Rahman laid the foundation for press freedom in modern Bangladesh. Following the path he established, the present government is further strengthening multi-dimensional democracy and an independent media environment.
He made these remarks on Tuesday morning on May 12, 2026 while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the newspaper “Asia Post” held at George Motel Auditorium.
Minister Dipen Dewan said that the media serves as the mirror of the nation. Therefore, journalists must play a responsible and impartial role to ensure that no misinformation or propaganda spreads regarding the country’s politics, development, and other important national issues. He particularly urged journalists to present objective news regarding the problems, possibilities, and development activities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region.
He further said that a new horizon for the media was created during the BNP government, and under the leadership of current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the country is progressing successfully in various sectors.
This event was chairs by “Asia Post”-Rangamati correspondent Md. Ziaul Haque. Special guests included District BNP Vice President and former municipal mayor Md. Saiful Islam Chowdhury Bhutto, District BNP General Secretary Advocate Mamunur Rashid Mamun, and Organizational Secretary Md. Saiful Islam Shakil.
Among others present at the event were Rangamati Press Club President Anwar Al Haque, General Secretary Muhammad Ilyas, local journalist leaders, and distinguished community members.
According to a press release sent by Md. Rezuan Khan, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, the speakers at the event emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, protecting media freedom, and publishing more objective development-oriented news about the hill tracts region.
