Public Voices Grow Louder for Polytechnic School and College at the South Side of the Bridge in Historic Tilli Bazar Following Government Announcement

By Al Mamun | United States | July 18, 2026: Residents of Saturia Upazila in Manikganj have welcomed the government’s initiative to establish a Polytechnic School and College. Following the recent announcement by Afroza Khanam Rita, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, discussions have intensified across Tilli Union regarding the selection of the proposed site for the Polytechnic School and College. Local residents are now strongly advocating for the Polytechnic School and College to be established on the south side of the bridge in historic Tilli Bazar.

According to local elected representatives, educators, parents, business leaders, community members, and residents, the proposed site near Tilli Bazar is the most suitable location due to its strategic geography, transportation links, and accessibility. They pointed out that the area serves as a gateway connecting Manikganj Sadar, Saturia, Daulatpur, and Ghior upazilas, making it an ideal central location. Establishing the institution there would provide convenient access to thousands of students from all four neighboring upazilas.

Residents also expressed concern that Tilli Union has long been overlooked in terms of government development initiatives. Although several public institutions were once expected to be established in the area, they were eventually built elsewhere. Many locals cited the location of the Union Parishad Complex as an example of the region’s longstanding deprivation. They believe that selecting the south side of the bridge in historic Tilli Bazar for the Polytechnic School and College would help correct years of development imbalance.

Community leaders further noted that Tilli Union currently lacks any major government educational institution or significant public infrastructure. They believe that establishing a modern Polytechnic School and College at the proposed site would not only benefit students from Tilli Union but also those from South Ayanapur, North Ayanapur, Pachutia, and many surrounding villages. They say the institution would create new opportunities for technical and vocational education while helping develop a skilled workforce for the future.

Residents also expect the project to generate employment opportunities, stimulate local businesses, strengthen the regional economy, improve infrastructure, and enhance transportation throughout the area. They believe the institution would become a catalyst for sustainable economic and social development.

The issue has also generated significant discussion on social media. One local resident commented that a lack of unity and effective leadership in the past prevented Tilli Union from receiving its fair share of development projects. The resident urged people from all political backgrounds to unite and work together to ensure that the Polytechnic School and College is established on the south side of the bridge in historic Tilli Bazar.

The government has not yet officially announced the final location of the Polytechnic School and College. However, residents hope the authorities will carefully consider transportation accessibility, student convenience, population distribution, land availability, and the area’s long-term development potential before making a final decision.

Meanwhile, US Bangla Tribune, an online news outlet published from the United States, announced that it will closely monitor the progress of this important development project. The publication stated that it will continue to provide factual, objective, and balanced reporting to promote transparency and accountability while ensuring that the legitimate concerns and aspirations of local residents are accurately reflected throughout the implementation process.

Residents remain optimistic that the government will recognize the strategic importance of the proposed site before making its final decision. They believe that establishing the Polytechnic School and College on the south side of the bridge in historic Tilli Bazar would mark a new chapter in technical education in Saturia Upazila and play a vital role in producing the skilled workforce needed for Bangladesh’s future development.
