Toronto, Canada | May 15, 2026: Three passengers arriving from Bangladesh were reportedly detained and fined at Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada for carrying prohibited food items, according to multiple media reports and social media posts.
Based on reports dated May 13, 2026, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has separately highlighted enforcement actions involving the seizure of prohibited meat, plant, and dairy products at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The items were detected with the help of detector dogs.
According to CBSA, food, plant, and animal products can carry invasive species, foreign diseases, and pests that may harm agriculture, livestock, the environment, and the economy.
In the reported incident involving passengers from Bangladesh, travelers were allegedly carrying meat, vegetables, onions, and other agricultural products in their luggage. Canadian customs authorities took action after the items were not properly declared upon arrival.
Reports say the three passengers were fined a total of approximately 1,300 Canadian dollars, equivalent to nearly Tk 150,000 in Bangladeshi currency. The items were also reportedly confiscated by authorities.
