Al Mamun

Al Mamun is an American citizen based in New Jersey, originally from Bangladesh, and has lived in the United States for nearly three decades. He is widely recognized for his contributions to financial technology, journalism, and community service within the Bangladeshi-American diaspora. He began his journalism career in Bangladesh during the early years of The Daily Ajker Kagoj and The Daily Bhorer Kagoj. He later founded the U.S.-based English-language newspaper US Bangla Tribune, where he serves as Founder & Editor-in-Chief, while also contributing as a freelance journalist to various publications. Academically, Mr. Mamun earned a Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka and completed studies in Executive IT Management at Columbia University. He is also an alumnus of Notre Dame College. Professionally, he serves as a Senior IT Project Manager and IT Audit & Governance Specialist in the financial services industry. Throughout his career, he has held leadership roles at several globally respected institutions, including AIG, Merrill Lynch, Instinet, MarketAxess, KPMG, as well as major Swiss banking institutions such as Credit Suisse and UBS. In addition to his technical leadership, he is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and is recognized for his expertise in Agile process implementation, helping organizations improve operational efficiency, governance, and large-scale technology delivery. Mr. Mamun is also a Senior Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), a distinction that is not easily attained. This honor is granted only to professionals who have demonstrated at least ten years of professional practice, with significant performance and documented achievements in engineering, technology, or related leadership roles. The elevation to Senior Member reflects both peer recognition and a proven record of professional excellence, making it one of the most respected professional recognitions in the global technology community. IEEE Beyond his professional career, he has been actively involved in volunteer and nonprofit work since childhood, including service with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the Lions Clubs International through Leo Club, Rotary International, and Rover Scouting. He also serves as an advisor to masjid.life, a nonprofit organization that provides interest-free loans to underprivileged individuals in Bangladesh. In community leadership, he previously served as President of the Bangladesh Society of New Jersey, where he worked to strengthen community engagement, preserve cultural heritage, and promote unity among Bangladeshi-Americans. Al Mamun is a devoted family man, happily married, and the father of a son, Farhan, and a daughter, Ayesha. He is also a proud father-in-law of Dr. Sabrina. Through his combined work in journalism, technology, finance, and community service, he continues to make a meaningful contribution to both the Bangladeshi-American community and wider society.
