High-Speed Free Wi-Fi Launched at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport; 37,000 Passengers Can Connect Simultaneously

DHAKA — In a major boost to airport digitization and passenger experience, a massive high-speed free Wi-Fi service was officially inaugurated today at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). The new infrastructure allows nearly 37,000 passengers to access reliable, high-speed internet simultaneously across the entire airport complex.

The service was jointly inaugurated by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, MP, and ICT Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam, MP. Also in attendance were State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP, and Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Adviser Nahid Islam.

Speaking at a press briefing following the launch, Minister Afroza Khanam highlighted that this initiative aligns directly with the current democratic government's electoral pledge to provide "fast and reliable internet for all." She noted that the upgraded digital service significantly elevates the travel experience for ordinary citizens and international tourists alike, adding that the upcoming opening of the Third Terminal will mark another major milestone.

The newly deployed network spans a vast area of approximately 94,000 square meters. It ensures seamless coverage across, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, The Domestic Terminal, VIP and VVIP Terminals, and The Airport Parking Zone.

To achieve this level of connectivity, a robust infrastructure has been laid out, including 250 state-of-the-art Access Points (APs), 88 kilometers of optical fiber and Ethernet cabling, and 37 access switches. Each individual access point is capable of handling up to 150 users concurrently, bringing the network's total capability to roughly 37,500 simultaneous users. The entire system operates on a powerful backbone with a bandwidth capacity reaching up to 40 Gbps.

State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat expressed his gratitude to the ICT ministry and advisers for their technical collaboration on the project. According to official data, experimental testing of the network began on April 26, 2026. During the trial period alone, more than 20,000 passengers successfully utilized the free service, consuming a total of 2.3 Terabytes (TB) of data.

Officials emphasize that this project positions Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as a modern, digitally equipped hub, facilitating smoother communication and online accessibility for both domestic and foreign travelers entering and leaving Bangladesh.
